Working with local schools – Combs Ford Primary School
Here at Gipping Press we are always extremely keen to work with local schools and organisations where we can. However, the latest project we were heavily involved in with Combs Ford Primary School was a real special one which we thought was worth sharing.
At the start of the year Michelle from the school, contacted Danny and asked him to come and have a look at their 5-a-side pitch which they were very keen to improve on the side hoardings as they were becoming old and a little unsafe.
Why not ask the pupils of the school to draw crowd scenes which we could then scan and enlarge to make a real life footy crowd for the children to play in front of?
If we are creating a crowd scene then shouldn’t there be advertising boards at the bottom? Could we not ask local companies to sponsor a board in return for an advert?
Suddenly we had on our hands a fantastic fun project that included the pupils of the school and local Suffolk businesses whilst improving a well-used area of the school. We were so keen to be involved in this that suggested that we produce the boards at just above cost to help with the funding of them.
As things progressed the final boards took shape and it was amazing to witness the transformation that it gave the 5-a-side pitch, but the real magical moment came when the students whose artwork had been chosen to be used were shown the new pitch.
The excitement was very contagious and even the photographer from the Bury Free Press couldn’t help but have a big smile on his face as he took the pictures.
Whilst the transformation of the football pitch was an excellent project, what really stood out to us about this one was that how easy and cost effective it can be. Local companies were charged a very small amount of £30 per board which covered the majority of the costs for the boards and also provided some ‘buy-in’ to the school community from local business!
If you have a project which you would like to talk through with us then please let us know and we would be more than happy to come and talk it through with you and see where it will lead us!
